Socks

I give you this simple gift of new socks
Cause I saw you wearing an odd pair the other day
But please don’t change, stay unorthodox
Just mix up the new pairs in your own quirky way.
I’m sorry they aren’t a bit more funky
But by the time I saw some with a smarter design
I’d already bought these.  They may be tweedy and chunky
But in a cold climate, sensible socks are a fine
Fashion statement.  I had thought
Of buying the other socks as well as these
But that might overwhelm you with socks and I ought
To take it easy.  But if it would please
You, let me remove these socks in the glow
Of the fire and massage you gently from heel to toe.
